ICRCPAL Conference - Roma, 21-22 of June, 2016

A Seminar entitled ‘La via della carta tra Oriente e Occidente. Produzione, restauro e conservazione: presente e passato a confronto’  , was  arranged in Rome, at the head-office of the Istituto Centrale per il Restauro e la Conservazione del Patrimonio Archivistico e Librario (ICRCPAL) basedin Via Milano, on Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 June 2016 . The leit-motiv of the seminar, that aims at reviving the topic of paper and associated issues- the central core of the research activities carried out by ICRCPAL, focuses on the comparison between paper manufacturing in the past and today, both in the West and in the East,  and intends discussing issues relating to the restoration and conservation of these products,  both ancient and modern. The Fondazione G. Fedrigoni ISTOCARTA foundationwas invited by dott.ssa Maria Letizia Sebastiani, the newly appointed Director of ICRCPAL, to give their  contribution to  the historical paper heritage of invaluable worth, which is under the custody of the foundation, inherited by the longstanding paper-mill Cartiere Miliani, as tangible evidence of paper manufactured in the West in the modern era. Livia Faggioni, Coordinator of ISTOCARTA,  will deliver a speech on ‘ The“Mould”and its history in western paper: the history of western paper narrated through the  “mould”,  the tool thathas permitted and still permits manufacturing paper over the centuries and today. Special attention will be paid to  the 2,300 moulds that have been preserved, which are now being catalogued.
