Fabriano’s Papermaking Industrial Heritage: First Lecture Sells Out
Strong Interest and full attendance for the first event in the “A lezione nei luoghi della carta” series.
The first event in the “A lezione nei luoghi della carta” series, promoted by the Fondazione Fedrigoni Fabriano in collaboration with the Laboratorio permanente di ricerca storica (LabStoria), attracted significant interest and participation. The venue was completely sold out, welcoming local high Fabriano school students (from the Classical High School, Scientific High School, and IIS Merloni-Miliani), along with enthusiasts and members of the public eager to explore the history of Fabriano’s papermaking heritage.
“A lezione nei luoghi della carta” is a four-part program dedicated to the history, culture, and memory of Fabriano’s paper mills. Designed for students from Fabriano’s secondary schools participating in the project and also open to the public by reservation, the series offers a multidisciplinary journey through industrial archaeology, printmaking, social history, and audiovisual memory. It provides fresh perspectives on the crucial role paper has played in shaping Fabriano’s identity over the centuries.
Architect Fabiola Pancotti with the speach "Il luogo della carta: esplorazione del patrimonio archeologico industriale delle Cartiere fabrianesi" guided the audience through a fascinating exploration of the architectural evolution of Fabriano’s paper mills, reconstructing the key stages of their development through valuable historical sources preserved in the Paper Mills Archive.
Historic photographs, architectural plans, maps, and archival documents offered a unique insight into the transformations that have shaped one of the most emblematic sites of Fabriano’s industrial heritage. The presentation sparked great curiosity and prompted numerous questions from attendees.
The remarkable turnout and the lively discussion that followed confirmed the enduring interest in the history of the paper mills and the importance of preserving and promoting a heritage that continues to tell the story of the deep and lasting bond between Fabriano and the art of papermaking.
